Appeals Court: No Breakup

The long awaited opinion from the U.S. Court of Appeals regarding the Microsoft antitrust case was finally handed down on Thursday, with the Court reversing the decision to breakup the software giant. But the decision wasn't a clear victory for Microsoft: The Court upheld the conclusion that Microsoft owns a monopoly in operating systems and that it broke the law in an attempt to maintain and extend that monopoly. Given the even split, both the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Microsoft declared that the Court's decision was a victory.
