Microsoft to disable product activation over Net

Customers who find themselves reinstalling Windows XP should be ready for a headache: Microsoft will no longer support activating the product over the Internet.

Intended to curtail the stealing and selling of certificates of authenticity, the new security measure will start at the end of this month. At first, it will be limited to the Windows XP software preinstalled on systems shipped by the top 20 PC sellers.

"The main reason is to address piracy in this area," a Microsoft representative said on Thursday. "Microsoft has found various people selling the labels of authenticity that they have copied or have pulled off other PCs."

DAMN I INSTALLED MY SOFTWARE WINDOWS XP SP2 IN MY PC AND THEN AFTER A FEW WEEKS MY PC INFECTED A VIRUS SO I REFORMAT MY PC WHEN I INSTALLED MY SOFTWARE WINDOWS XP SP2 AGAIN ACTIVATION IS REQUIRING AND IT SHOULD BE TERMINATED AFTER 30 DAYS EVEN I ACTIVATE IT IN MY FIRST INSTALLED PLSSS HELP ME

You should always make a back-up of wpa.dll file onto a cd-r then after reinstallation, drop the file back into the system32 folder, I am not sure it works for service pack 2, but I did do that in service pack1 for years, I am about to reinstall service pack 2 so will let you know if it works

Found this Note: $SYSTEM32\WPA.DBL and WPA.BAK should be saved and restored to avoid reactivation only when performing a 'Repair' reinstallation of XP; Those files are useless when performing a full reinstall. There's gotta be a way to do this. The right registry permissions may help to gain control over the WPA folder. It's not over yet.
